Signatory Vintage are an independent bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington. The name ‘Signatory’ was derived from the initial intention to find a person of suitable standing to sign the labels for bottles drawn from a single cask. The first cask bottled was a 1968 Glenlivet which quickly sold through long before any suitable signee could be found.

The Linkwood Distillery was established in 1821, but only started production in 1824. Owner Peter Brown was the manager of the Linkwood Estate and wisely kept his nose clean until the 1823 Excise Act was on the stature book. The distillery was rebuilt in 1874 and was run as an independent distillery up until 1932 where is joined DCL, now Diageo. It has remained in production ever since, with regular upgrades taking place, most significantly in 1972 when a new distillery was built opposite the old buildings. The owners ran both distilleries until 1985 when the original distillery was used as an experimental site. The capacity of the distillery is now around 5.5 million litres per annum.

This single malt whisky was distilled in 2006 at the Linkwood distillery before being placed in a single ex Bourbon Hogshead and left to mature for 13 years. It was then placed in a fresh ex sherry butt and finished for 3 months. In 2020 it was bottled at 58.4% abv as part of the Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection. Only 713 bottles were produced.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: Chocolate digestive biscuits, lemon thyme and dried summer fruits.

Palate: Dried summer berries, peanut brittle and softly burnt toffee.

Finish: Coffee bitterness with toasted walnuts and malted barley. Dried sherry sweetness.
