Glen Moray has a long wonderful history and it is a brand we are all (or should be) quite familiar with. The distillery was established in 1897 then closed in 1910 then reopened again in the 1920’s. The distillery is found in the town of Moray near Elgin and is bounded by the Moray Firth to the north. Distilling in this area is a major local industry and the Glen Moray distillery has always played a big part in local employment at the distillery and also preparing the ingredients which are grown locally. You should expect oatmeal, shortbread, blackcurrants and a lemony grassy flavour, A splash of water and there is a wonderful hint of heather.

The Whisky Cellar was founded by Keith Bonnington, a Keeper of the Quaich this Edinburgh based company are bottlers of small batch selections of single cask whisky. “We are a flavour diversity driven bottler and our core message is that, if we love the spirit enough, we will bottle it, irrespective of age, region, cask type or style. We want to bring to market extremely high-quality one-off whiskies which represent good value to the consumer.” said Bonnington. Bonnington works with a panel of tasting experts to ensure only the very best whiskies are bottled for The Whisky Cellar. Between them, the panel has over 200 years experience. So, you know these single cask whiskies must be good!

This cask strength single malt whisky was distilled at the Glen Moray distillery before being placed in a single ex-Bourbon Barrel and left to mature for 23 years. In August 2020 it was bottled at 55.5% abv as part of the Private Cellars Selection range. Only 115 bottles were produced for worldwide distribution.

Our Tasting Notes

Nose: French pastries, baking spices and bursts of orchard fruit and delicate herbs with some floral tones.

Palate: Pear tarte tatin, Christmas spices, soft gingerbread men, peppery spice.

Finish: Poached pears, honey sweetness and warming oak.
